Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) is for profit health care organization and located in Nashville, Tennessee and, the largest for profit entity. It includes 162 hospitals and 113 freestanding surgical centers in the United States and United Kingdom (“Hospital Corporation of America”,2013). HCA opened in 1968 and they value patient care and provide quality and effective care to patients. They take pride in their mission and values. According to “About Our Company HCA Healthcare” (2013), “HCA invests about $ 1.5 billion annually to keep their facilities modern and up-to-date technologically and to expand and add services where needed” (para. 2). HCA is known to be a private company. According to “About Our Company HCA Healthcare” (2013), “In 2006 the company was acquired by private investor group affiliates of Bain Capital, Kohlberg, Kravis Roberts & Co. and Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity” (para. 4). This was largest transaction for a buy out in the health care industry at that time (“About Our Company HCA Healthcare”,2013). For profit organizations are in urban or rural areas. These organizations treat both insured and uninsured. However, for profit organizations may refuse to treat patients that do not have health insurance . Policies are different in for profit health care organizations. They must follow state and government guidelines however finances are different. For profit organizations are often investor owned and have many shareholders. Profits and accounting systems are different from nonprofit and government owned organizations.
