Advertisers spend millions of dollars to the media for a one-minute commercial on a major station. Television and Magazines focus on what is hot and what’s not in the fashion world, but they also focus on what others are wearing such as celebrities.

The United States, as a whole, is known for its obsession with food and fashion. During the 1800s, American Americans began to consume less of those items. However, as more American workers became self-sufficient, their demand for food increased, creating a shortage of food for the poor. These conditions led to food shortages throughout the early 1850s.

Today, a country often referred to as a food-producing nation has two parts: one of which is agriculture and the other of which is industrial and manufacturing. The United States is known for its obsession with food and fashion. A growing number of Americans have moved into other parts of the country to make ends meet, such as the growing industry of fast food restaurants, while less Americans have moved into manufacturing. A major factor in this change has been the increasing share of the American workforce and the growing use of automation and computerization. During the 1970s, American families were moving to many different states while factory-level workers moved into one or two areas where there was a greater sense of belonging. These changes are the result of a shift towards higher-paying jobs and higher disposable income, and have resulted in larger numbers of Americans moving into these jobs to support themselves. Over the course of the 1990s and early 2000s, these trends are seen increasing substantially, as wages have stagnated and household incomes are stagnant. As wages and incomes haven’t kept pace during that period, these trends have continued as consumers buy cheaper items in order to meet costs, and thus become more disposable income. The changes in our country’s food economy are part of a larger trend that may have caused the trend to shift. While the United States has only partially developed into a major source of industrial and manufacturing, it has been growing steadily as people in the home have migrated to urban areas and are now living in areas not used to agriculture, manufacturing and other forms of jobs that could be considered “farm-to-table” jobs. Today, there are 6.6 million Americans living in the homes of non-farm workers on a farm. Because this is a very small part of overall population, it needs to be said that the vast majority of non-farm workers are not living paycheck to paycheck. They are actually working part time at the end of the month but still working part time more than all of us can do. This makes us extremely poor and vulnerable to the growing demand for cheap necessities. These food shortages are compounded by the massive amount of people who have limited access to food and to goods that are available to them. As farmers are increasingly using fewer, more specialized products and equipment, the American public continues to accept fewer and fewer meals, and as these lower-

Throughout time cultures have relived earlier generation’s trends. Some trends last longer than others. Bell bottoms, beads hot, pants and polyester have all came and went, came back and left again, some lasting longer than others. All trends tend to become tiresome and boring and end up losing it’s place in society. Trends are made to fade and the good ones always comeback. Whether the trend is clothing, music or hairstyles they all seem to have a time limit. Jeans some how have made the transition from being a trend to being a classic. It seems that anything that is popular is only temporary, but apparently for jeans that theory does not apply.

According to the “History of Jean” website, jeans date as far back as the eighteenth century. One may ask how has jeans survived for so long in the fashion industry. It is evident that with change comes adaptation and that is just want jeans have done. They have managed to change with time and attitudes. Without adaptation comes no existence. Because jeans have been able to adapt to every decade and every change with every generation, they have been able to maintain its popularity in the fashion world. Who would have thought that jeans would make such an impact on the fashion industry and last as long.

Perhaps the rise of the popularity of jeans can mostly be credited to the film and music industry. The effect is not hard to understand, as even today fashion trends are greatly influenced by what high profile celebrities chose to wear. The history of blue jeans in 21st century can be traced to the celebrities that wear them.
