In preparation for the Open Series that will take place in Piedmont-Albany, WNYC’s National Hockey Pool is building up for the upcoming season through a “team play” that pits players in different situations to improve chances of winning the World Junior Championship, while at the same time raising funds. However, according to the Open Series Director of Hockey Operations, Nick Brown, while he doesn’t know exactly how the WNYC Open Series is going to play out, he did say it could be, “maybe there’s something to do, maybe we’ll see how we get to the tournament stage.”

In a statement sent to NHL.com, the WNYC Open Series officials, Scott Zab, Chris D. Johnson, Tom Steiner, Greg Jankowski, Steve Nesik, and Scott Zab said that they are currently planning on holding the American Hockey League’s WJC in Toronto. While the American Hockey League and the WJC are still under-the-radar events, these new events do not currently exist, but in this case, something might.

According to the statement, WNYC’s WJC for the upcoming season will be held in two locations. One location will be on the west side east-westerly corridor near Buffalo. The second location will be on the west side of Buffalo. Both locations are located in Buffalo, NY, but one location is on the southeast end of Buffalo. Although there are still open-doors to the tournament, it could be that when Open Series matches are held at these locations, some fans simply might not know why all three of the upcoming events are happening at this time.

“It’s great to have a team for that event,” said Brown. “The fans of New York and of New York Hockey are really excited to have some fans in here, and we all look forward to seeing the WNYC Championships get underway. We just can’t wait to see what all those other organizations can do and get out there and do what we’ve been doing well in the past to reach that type of success in other ways.”

WNYC has a long history with a number of professional organizations, such as the WHL Players’ Association, NHL WEC, and the NCAA Pro Hockey Hall of Fame. They have also fielded international competition, such as the World Junior Championships in China, the WJC
