Since 1954, the first successful kidney transplant was performed in the United States of America, (USA). With the advance in medical technology transplant can be carried out on several other organs. United Network for Organ Sharing, (2011). Organ donation is the process whereby a healthy organ and tissue from another person is transplanted into another. Organs that can be donated include both internal and external organs such as the heart, lungs, kidney, cornea, eyes, pancreas, intestines, tissues and skin which can be donated by a non -living usually referred to as deceased organ donors (DOD) or donor after brain death (DBD), however kidney is the most common living organ donated possibly from a family or friend, referred to as living organ and tissue donors. All age, ethnicity, and background can be organ donor. Tiessen, 2008.

Over the past three decades organ transplant have increasingly become an essential treatment of choice for both fatal and non-fatal diseases with relative cost-effective benefits. For example, one donor can give a gift of life to over 50people and improve the life of countless others. World health organization,1991.Presently,over 3,000 people are beneficiaries annually of replacement organ transplant in the UK but 9,000 more currently are on the waiting list for a life saving transplant with 1,000 dying before a compatible donor match is found. Thus have placed extreme demand on organ transplantation which cannot be matched by the inadequacy in supply. Minz et al, 2005.Nevertheless, potential beneficiaries of organ transplant cannot be treated due to important issue arising from thee demand and supply of compatible organ donor due to shortfall of people on the organ donor register even with the 17million people mainly from the Caucasian white population. National Health Service, (2011).This shortfall is mainly amongst black and ethnic minority ethnic groups especially from African- Caribbean and south-Asians which consist of Indian, Bangladesh and Pakistan population which make up two percent and four percent of the general UK population yet account for six and fourteen percent respectively represented on the organ waiting list. Randlawa ,(2004a).
