The person who has had the greatest impact on my life is my Mother. As far back as I can remember, my mother has been my hero. She is a divorced mom who has successfully raised 4 children. My mother shared with me some of her life experiences and how she was determine to prove the statement made that a single parent would not be able to raise productive children, and that children brought up in a single parent home is subject to a life of selling drugs, having babies, and going to jail wrong.

My oldest brother is a 34 year old. He is a father of 2, who lives in New York . He writes songs for various artists and has made singles and videos of his own. My oldest sister is 32 years old with no children; she is a Senior Teller at a Bank in my hometown. My 19 year old brother is in the US Navy stationed in San Diego , California . He is in the process of completing C- School and becoming a hospital Core- Man. I will be graduating from High school in June of 2011 and will be attending a 4 year university majoring in Biology/Nursing. After graduating from college I will attend Medical School and become OB/GYN.

My mother worked hard to provide my siblings and I with the necessities of life. We celebrated every birthday, got very nice Christmas gifts, never went hungry, and always had name brand clothes and shoes. She work hard sometimes all night, and never complained. She went to work when she did not feel like going. My mother always said, “I got to do what she got to do as the head of my household.” My mothers last job and her present one involves supervising other employees. She said being a supervisor requires a person to be fair and walk “straight down the middle” when dealing with people.

We were never on welfare because my mother said that the system wanted to know too much of her personal business, however we did receive food stamps for a short period of time. We got the opportunity to go on many vacations and participate in school activities. If we got the opportunity to go to a party on Saturday night, we had to be home before midnight. This rule began with my older siblings and continued with my Navy brother and I. Mama always told us not to let the next day catch us away from home.

We were brought up in the church, and at the age of 4, I joined the childrens choir. It was not enough for us to be a part so my mother encouraged us to be leaders. I lead my first song “Lord Keep Me Day by Day” at the age of 6. My oldest brother told me that he lead his first song “Everybody Ought to Praise His Name” at the age of 6 also. My oldest sister is one of the youth choirs advisors. My brother in the navy was choir president until he left for duty. My mother is very active in our church. She serves as the assistant treasurer, assistant financial secretary, choir advisor and, and as a member of other organizations.
