By: The InternetA report of online crimes and data breaches found that internet users worldwide have been targeted in some way by a large number of criminals. The attacks were most recently carried out on a Japanese government IT network, with government agencies being targeted and the data breaches occurring over the internet. A wide range of problems were being spread over the internet, including threats of cyber attacks. According to the report:

A series of online crimes against Japan, including cyber criminals targeting a sensitive source of knowledge, were reported on Tuesday by the Government Cyber Unit of Japan, based in Tokyo. Three major data breaches in the country were suspected by at least three senior government agencies of involving the information and communication of foreign national suspects to Japanese national and private citizens, known as JNUs, or JNJs, authorities said in a report released on Tuesday, according to an unidentified party. The perpetrators of the incidents have not had a legal permanent residence in Japan since the beginning of April, the report notes.

The report notes that the alleged perpetrators of the first three incidents were named as Kaku Sasaki, the director (Japan) at Information Services Agency, an “independent agency” that was “investigating the incidents”. The four JNU employees implicated were identified as Hiroshi Yamamoto, chief of staff at the Ministry of Communications, and Keiyuki Tanaka, a national staff member:

According to government data, the three were believed to have communicated from a private residential office address, the report notes.

Yamaoka was identified as a “senior government” employee, in charge of data management for the JNU. The report cites the former assistant secretary of the JNU, Yoshimichi Wakara, as saying that the second JNU employee involved was “the only person of interest in the case”. The report indicates that the third person of interest was Yuryuki Suzuki, a “consul chief for the JNU for seven years”. According to the JNU, Wakara said that the third person is still at large as a senior intelligence official under their successor director, Satoshi Nishino.

Yumaoka is one of the main suspects in the first three incidents, who is accused of “misusing the information” and was “associating with two persons of interest”, after which he was arrested via a police affidavit in March this year. According to the report, “Yamaoka then visited the JNU headquarters at the time he was arrested on the charges, while receiving documents from the ministry of information.”

The report concludes, “While the fourth and sixth individuals of interest and four others were considered as individuals of importance to the investigation of the second JNU incident are not yet dead yet, the three suspects who received the warrants have been cleared by the police of all three of the offenses and the investigation is ongoing”. The report concludes: “When the fourth and sixth individuals of interest and four others were considered as individuals of value, and one of them received an arrest warrant when he was in possession of documents from the ministry of information, the investigation into each of the offenses commenced immediately and has
