Sociology 111 – This I Believe: Change
This I Believe: ChangeĀ Adrian HelmsIvy techSociology 111I believe in change. The type of change that lets you be whomever you chose to be without letting go of how you got there. On some levels, Iā€™m still the same person I was in middle school. On other levels, I have changed a lot. Ā I have developed my personally and have matured to the man I am now. The challenges I have faced taught me to stand on my own. Before us it must first be me. Although there are moments in life that we need to share with other people, I realized at early age that there is only one way for me to be me ā€“ being by myself. Like most children I felt strong as a part of a group, but as I was growing up, I started perceiving life in a different way think how it could affect the future and our next generation(136). I discovered that everything around me was changing, and then I felt that I had to change, too. A series of events followed and each of them added something to my soul. I try not to let the simple things hold me back. I believe in change but not all change is a good change. Ā My group of friends wasnā€™t a positive influence on me, and decided to separate myself from them thinking about how every can change my sister who I should show to be a leader not a follower. Ā I had difficulties, though, finding a positive group, so I became my own positive group.

At the beginning of high school ifĀ it wasnt for my mentor I wouldnt be where I am today. Before I got to where I am today I wasnt your average student in high school. In high school I didnt have well behavior. Then I meet this man asking why I acted the way I did. I responded saying itā€™s because of the people around me. I did not think much of it at the time then a couple years later he passed then having a friend treated wrongly by cops as well as me and they get way with it in fact Washington post ā€œThe year isnā€™t over yet, and police have already killed at leastĀ 1,023 peopleĀ  many of whom were unarmed, mentally ill, and people of color. This number comes fromĀ The Guardianā€™s police killings database, but the Killed by Police database countsĀ 1,096 peopleĀ who have died at the hands of police so far this year. The Washington Post reports thatĀ 908 people have been shot and killed by copsā€
