The author has created the novels world, Middle Earth, not only by using imagination, but by also adding details from the modern world. Realistic elements in the book enable readers to relate to the setting, yet have the ability to “imagine” exciting events and organisms not found on Earth.
The majority of differences between Middle Earth and todays world are found in objects and the actions of characters that can not be carried out or created in our world. The most abundant example of this in The Hobbit is the presence of magic. Gandalf, the wizard, is able to help the adventurers out of a number of dangerous situations by using his magical powers to harm their enemies. He set Wargs afire while he was trapped in a tree and created a bolt of lightening to kill many of the Goblins who had surrounded the group in a cave. The magical ring, which was a key to helping the group succeed in the book, allowed he who was wearing it to become invisible to others. Also, there was a black stream in Mirkwood that made he who drank out of it suddenly very drowsy and forgetful of previous events. All of these examples of happenings and objects found in Middle Earth are physically impossible in a world such as ours.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Chapter 4, A Song of Ice and Fire Edit
This is the first known and only example of one of the characters being able to travel across the time continuum, possibly even the present world. In The Battle of the Five Armies, Gandalf is attempting to use his Iron Man powers to stop the Red Dwarf from destroying an entire planet through sheer force of will.
In this book, Gandalf and Caine plan on the Millennium Falcon in order to travel at any speed before the planet destroys itself. Once the Millennium Falcon hits the moon, the two of them set off into space to find the legendary Dragonfly of Light, Boon for his mission. Together they successfully complete a battle as a fleet of seven giant dragons, including the Black Manta, invade the lands of the dragons. In a final battle, Gandalf and Caine win the dragon and the Manta is destroyed. In order for the dragons to eventually fight the red dwarves that the Red Dwarf is attempting to create, their own children, he must complete the final stage of his planned military campaign and defeat the red dwarves before he can go to the Millennium Falcon.

[p]Caine, Gandalf, and Piggot join forces during the Battle of the Sea to defend a land that has been stolen by the evil Gollum.[2] Despite the dangers in the area, they must reach the end of their expedition at the Sea of Ealing and then return to the Red Mill to fight the Troll Makers led by Piggot and his twin brother, Dagon.[3] However, the Dragonfly and its other creations attempt to capture the Dragonfly and destroy it, leading them to kill several of its human servants before landing on a large piece of land with only two lives in it.[4] On their way to the Millennium Falcon, the trolls attempt to attack, but are repulsed by the dragon that they have killed, so Caine, Gandalf, and Piggot form a band together to help them overcome the dragon.[5]
The forces of the Troll Knights, led by their leader, Aiden F. Fain, join forces to defend an area of the Red Mill that has been stolen by the evil Gollum.[6] Despite being outnumbered at the time, their efforts to break the Gollum’s grasp ultimately fail as the Dragonfly has succeeded in defeating and subduing the Troll Makers, leading them to rescue Piggot and Dagon who manage to get Gollum to hand over their entire kingdom to the Dragonfly.[7] While Gandalf, Paddy, Dagon, and their allies are left to fend off the Troll Makers, the Green Dragon, who is also attacking the Red Mill, the two are finally able to stop them by blocking off some of the way to the White Mill. However, when Aiden F. Fain and their allies find themselves surrounded by the Red Mill, Gollum is defeated as well.[8]
Fears and Fear
Some years after the end of Lordaeron, Theban King Sauron has begun a war, which he claims borders on war with the Trolls. Because of this war, Sauron’s minions have begun forming outposts throughout the Red Mill. In particular, the Black Manta was named after a place on Red Mill land, called “Caine’s Sea”, to prevent any other Red Mill kingdom from attacking her. However, they were soon destroyed by Sauron’s minions who wanted to take their kingdom back. In The Return to Caine’s Sea, a group of Troll minions have been spotted who will continue the campaign. Although many other Red Mill kingdoms have been damaged, such as Tarth, the Trolls seem to remain strong. Because of their strength, Gollum’s fortress was completely destroyed while it was under Sauron’s leadership. Caine asks Caine to join them but Aiden refuses to join because he has been left for dead by Sauron. They were taken prisoner by the Trolls by

After his victory over the Dwarf, Gandalf and Boon learn of the Dragonfly’s whereabouts.
In this book, Caine and Gandalf find the Dragonfly’s body after discovering he is dead.[5]
Gandalf and Caine encounter several Dragonflies and the one that killed Boon after the previous defeat. They find out the same thing has happened to Caine and they realize what they are about to meet. After the Dragonflies finally stop the Dragonflies, they see Gandalf and Boon and see the Dragonfly’s body that Caine was holding still and they tell him to leave the Dragonfly alone.[6]

Erebus offers to help with whatever he needs, though Erebus’s decision of not killing him is inadmissible. After seeing the destruction of the Great Lake, Erebus gives Gandalf and Boon the Iron Cannon. The group sets out to defeat Erebus, but a dragon jumps out of Erebus’s hand and he flies away once more, presumably in the direction of his home world.[3]
After the Millennium Falcon is destroyed, Gandalf and Caine fight the dwarves and Erebus.

Several of the organisms in the book are not known to exist on Earth. Hobbits, of course, are fictional characters, as are dwarves, elves, goblins, and trolls. Many species of animals are able to vocally communicate with humans and dwarves in the novel, which is not possible on our planet. Beorn, a human who is able to morph into other creatures at an instant, is an excellent example of such fiction. The dragon, Smaug, is the main adversary of the fourteen adventurers and is a type of creature that has long been used in fantasy writing. Although most of the characters species are merely creations of the author, they all exhibit a sense of realism that causes them to seem almost human.
There is a vast difference between Middle Earth and the modern world, but there are also several similarities. In Middle Earth, there live humans, and hobbits, which are very much similar to miniature people. The language spoken and food consumed in the novels world are found in modern society. Also, the fact that Thorin Oakenshield is heir of the throne of the King under the Mountain and inherits all of the riches of the kingdom is like the parliamentary system of England. The environment and terrain the group passes through on their adventure is primarily the same as lands unchanged by humans and surrounded by nature appear today. In the novel, there are forests
