The Luxor Hotel located in Las Vegas, Nevada is a spectacle of modern architecture and was one of the resort Las Vegas first fully themed mega resorts. Ground was broken for the Luxor in 1991 and the hotel opened on October 15, 1993. Built on an Ancient Egyptian theme it accommodates guest in 4,407 spacious rooms lining the interior walls of a hollow pyramid and contained within two towers.

The hotel was named after the city of Luxor (ancient Thebes) in Egypt, the site of the Valley of the Kings, Karnak and Luxor Temples, and numerous other monuments ironically with the exception of pyramids.

The Luxor hotel is located on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip and in front of The Mandalay Bay and is owned by The Mandalay Resort Group. Due to it unique design the Luxor is among the most recognizable hotels on the strip. The main portion of the hotel is a 350-foot-high 30-story pyramid of black glass. The hotel is marked by a large obelisk with the name of the property in lighted letters. The Luxor is a reproduction based directly on the descriptions of the tomb recorded by Howard Carter, who discovered it in 1922.

The tip of the pyramid contains a spotlight that points directly upward lighting the Vegas Strip. The spot light is the brightest beam in the world, and is visible from anywhere in the Las Vegas valley at night, and can be seen at flight level from above Los Angeles, California, over 275 miles away, and is visible from space. In the spring, the bright light attracts huge numbers of moths into the light beam, who are consequentially killed by the lights intense heat creating a snow like effect.

The guest rooms positioned on the outer walls of the pyramid and are reached by “inclinators” elevators that travels along the inner surface of the pyramid at a 39-degree angle. Open hallways leading to the rooms overlook the worlds largest atrium in the, which is 29 million cubic feet
