General Purpose: To informSpecific Purpose Statement: To inform people about NigeriaIntroductionWhat was it like in the home of over 193,392,571 peoplePeople with three standard languages and over 500 additional indigenous languages.Also known as the giant of Africa.I am glad to be born and raised in this country.And pleased to do some research about the countryI will be speaking a little about Nigerian, a country with abundant natural resourcesBodyNigeria as a countryNigeria is an African countryIt is in the western part of AfricaNigeria has a total area of 923,768km^2 (356,669 Sq. mi)Nigeria has 36 states.It has national capital, the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja).The largest state in Nigeria is Kano state (Northern part of the country)Lagos state is the major economic center of Nigeria.Nigeria has three standard languages and over 500 other indigenous languagesYoruba, Igbo and Hausa are the three standard languagesThe other language includes Edo, Efik, Urhobo and so on.English is the official language in language.English is only spoken by small minority mostly in urban area.Since estimated 75% of the population lives in rural area, the dominant language for communication are still tribal or ethnic language.Nigeria citizen and CultureNigeria has three different religion.Christian, Muslim and traditional religion.The northern part of Nigeria is mostly dominated by Muslims.The Eastern part of Nigeria is mostly dominated by Christians.The south and west are dominated by both Christians and Muslims.Nigeria is enriched in cultureGreeting is important in Nigeria. In Yoruba and Hausa, the female must be on their kneels when greeting elder ones and male most prostrate. In Igbo a warm handshake with bow for elders.In every part of Nigeria using of left hand to give things to people or greet is disrespectful.Yoruba are among the group of Nigerian people where culture is pretty much preserved. They are involved in a lot of artworks: poetry, beadwork, metalwork, weaving, sculpture and mask making.The typical art work of Yoruba is made to honor ancestors and gods as they believe in a lot of deities.Igbos is the eastern part of Nigeria.They are known to be highly enterprising and industrious.2.2. They have warm and colorful cultural display, like Yam festival.Hausa is the northerner part of Nigeria. Hausa are mostly into Agricultural activities. They are creative in turning object to a useful tool.ClothingNigeria fashion is highly trendy and revolutionaryYou often find the latest design and redesigns of styles and patternThe typical wear is colorful especially for woman tying wrapper with the style called buba.Other common styles include skirts, trouser or pants and are mostly made of Ankara materials.Nigerian foodThere are several foods prepared and cooked in Nigeria. Most of the food are tailored towards the various cultures of different ethnic groups.Most common Nigeria foods are rice, beans, yam, cassava, plantain and so on.Tourism and Natural ResourcesNigeria has a lot of cultural tourist center, that covers a lot of history like, Dr. Ladi Kwali Pottery Centre, Osun Shrine, and Opa ranmiyan e.t.c.There is a lot of hills and rocks tourist center like, Olumo Rock, Zuma rock, Idanre hills, e.t.c.Wildlife parksMuseumResortBeachArt galleriesNigeria is home to significant deposits of coal, iron ore, lead, limestone, tin and zinc.a. it has rich land and water resources that are ripe for further agricultural exploitation.ConclusionNigerian is a great country to research on.Nigeria is developing country with a lot of good and bad sides.According to Philip Emeagwali “Nigerian is a west African nation of over 100 million energetic people.
