The London Olympics velodrome was designed to be a symbol of the Olympics support for the environment. The park promotes protection and conservation of nature. The woods stand on one side of the velodrome while the plains stand on the other, the velodrome is completely surrounded by nature. The floor of the velodrome was built carefully with the Siberian spruce. The velodrome itself is naturally ventilated throughout the day and night, which helps the dome stay cool during the day and warm during the evening. The ceiling is made out of steel cables, rather than steel blocks, which helps conserve tons of steel. Because the ceiling is made to be light, the foundation does not need to be as heavy, saving tons of concrete in the process.

The velodrome also promotes long term social sustainability as well. The people can easily get to the park by using the subway, the train, or the bicycles, while the use of personal vehicles such as cars are discouraged. The velopark has 1000 secure bicycle parking slots so that the cyclers there can safely leave their bikes without worrying about it getting stolen. Bike maintenance shops are easy to find so that riders can get their bicycles fixed. Recycling is also very encouraged within the velopark, as all the packages sold in the park has little stickers on them to tell what kind of recycling packages they are, making recycling a lot easier.
