KeplerEssay Preview: KeplerReport this essayEven before it was proven wrong, astronomers wondered what was wrong with the geocentric theory. Whenever they would research the theory to back it up, something always came out wrong. Johannes Kepler was the astronomer that solved the problem the problem with the geocentric theory, even before other astronomers knew there was something wriong. Before Johannes Kepler was involved, most people thought that the earth was the center of the universe. Kepler proved that the heliocentric theory was correct proving earlier astronomer’s research. Johannes Kepler’s proof that the heliocentric theory was correct changed history by revolutionizing astronomy.

In 2004, the Kepler Committee of Directors of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences submitted a unanimous decision that found the Earth is not a center of the universe. The committee considered the theory that Earth is a rotating, elliptical, rather than a circle. The new evidence proved Kepler’ is correct, and the Council of the Academy supported it in their decision as stated in their letter:

To:

This has many flaws including, but not limited to, the assumption that, all other things equal, the earth sits in a very flat orbit; that the earth doesn’t rotate in a circle when it is stationary (so you can’t be standing at a given point the whole time); that earth’s rotation is not at all instantaneous when not in orbit; that even in space, there are no celestial bodies that can’t get their balance wrong; a large error that is not only ignored in astronomy, but is also ignored by the scientific communities that are involved.

[Towards the end of the report, we get:

– An earlier statement by Stephen St. George: “We do agree that one cannot rely on the same data (as many in the amateur astronomy community have done about the earth-centered theory) even when it is not directly related to the basic laws of physics (such as the geocentric theory). For this reason we agree that a more complete examination of the evidence for the Earth should be conducted using a more direct approach. This conclusion is supported by a review of the scientific literature and previous work using similar methods.
Our initial conclusions concerning the Earth and the Earth’s rotation are very important to make sure that the public’s confidence in the current findings is not undermined in the future. We believe that the most accurate way to resolve the Earth’s rotation problem is to provide conclusive data and independent conclusions from these data. While this can be done by the use of independent observations, the best and strongest methods for making reliable findings are based on reliable, systematic analyses at the end of the life cycle. These independent studies usually are used when the scientific community disagrees with the conclusions of independent scientists with different observations and results.
This approach can be used because the

Before Johannes Kepler was involved, most people thought that the earth was the center of the universe. The only people that thought otherwise were astronomers. Whenever astronomers would attempt to solve the problem with the geocentric theory, in the end it just didn’t add up right.

Although backed by authority and common sense, the geocentric theory did not accurately explain the movements of the sun, moon, and planets. This problem troubled a Polish cleric named Nicolaus Copernicus. In the early 1500s, Copernicus became interested in an old Greek idea that the sun stood at

. . .Other astronomers like Tycho Brahe greatly support Copernicuss sun-centered theory with their observations. Proof that his theory was correct didn’t occur until long after his death. After studying planetary movement for more than 25 years, Copernicus reasoned that indeed, the stars, the earth, and the other planets revolve around the sun. Brahe accurately positioned over one thousand stars and made a comprehensive study of the solar system. Kepler’s mathematical calculations proved the heliocentric theory. From Copernicus to Kepler, astronomy was all messed up. Kepler proved that the orbits were elliptical which supported
