Inland Technology, Inc. Analysis
Identification of the strategic issues and problems
Inland Technology, Inc. has seen many successes through their discovery of genuine replica of chemicals. They discovered a niche that focuses on factors complementary to a company’s environment, which optimistically affects their customers monetarily. Although the case analysis of Inland’s current position seems promising, there are underlying problems that the organization may be faced with. Inland has created a demand and currently only seems to develop replicas of environmentally friendly chemicals based on the necessity of customers who contact them directly. In addition its core market is the U.S. Federal government, which is very beneficial to Inland, but dependency on only their business may result in complications. This strategy may work against the growth and impact of their company because of the possibility of another company entering the market with improved resources and staff while using an aggressive strategic approach. Existing competitors may even join alliances to purposely compete with the type of technology and ability Inland has to offer which creates a threat that should be highly considered. Solutions that may offer Inland alternatives to minimize the possibility of this underlying problem include the following: first, consider potential strategic alliances with organizations that can improve competitiveness of firm; secondly, create a marketing department that focuses on issues potential customers are experiencing; lastly, continue to operate as they currently do so while periodically evaluating the industry and opportunities.

Analysis and evaluation
Inland has proven themselves capable of developing replicas that coincide with their dedication of being as environmentally friendly as possible. According to the article, they learned from their mistake of overlooking possible regulations the replica, Skysol®, was faced with. This displayed flexibility, candidness, and timely corrections to bounce back from errors for their future business. As technology and more engineers enter the market with similar aspirations as Inland, time may not be on their side. This is considering that although they’ve discovered a niche in the market, competition is a great possibility.

The first solution proposed, is the option of considering a strategic alliance. Although in many ways it may not be ideal, there are many beneficial factors to consider. This solution offers the possibility of Inland having enough resources to take on a growing market effectively. It also may expose Inland to opportunities that currently aren’t a priority of theirs because the U.S. Federal government is their core market in which they dedicate much of their time. In addition, a strategic alliance may extend domestically or internationally to benefit from capabilities and resources that exist.
