Global warming is an on going problem that is not only affecting the United States, but the entire world, as we know it. Though potential effects on global warming are uncertain, there is general agreement among nations that green house gases will result in global warming (McWhorter). A major effect is the increase in temperature in certain areas of the country and planet. Another effect is the potential rise in sea level and flooding around the world (McWhorter). Also the change our weather patterns are being effecting by global warming. Global warming is genuine and is distressing our country and world.

One may ask what is global warming? Global warming in a ephemeral description is the increasing average temperature in our country and planet due to the increasing amount of green house gases being emitted into our atmosphere and trapping some long wave length infrared radiation thus increasing our temperature here on Earth (McWhorter). These green house gases are mainly consisted of carbon dioxide that is the burn off of fossil fuels (McWhorter). In 1958, global atmospheric reservoir of carbon dioxide was about 671 billion tons. In 1995 this amount had grown to 767 billion tons (McWhorter). Carbon dioxide is how ever clean up by Mother Nature but since the amount of carbon dioxide we emit is increasing, Mother Nature can no longer keep up thus exposing more carbon dioxide into our atmosphere and causing what most call global warming (McWhorter).

One main effect of global warming is the increase of temperature in certain areas of the world. Though an increase of only a few degrees would not be felt around the world, however certain areas would experience wider fluctuations than others (McWhorter). For example, the number of days where the temperature in New York City is above 32 F would double, but would remain unchanged in Los Angeles (McWhorter). Even the number of days the Polar Regions temperature reaches above 0 C may double or even triple (McWhorter). These are the types of uncertainness of global warming, but its a clear that areas will be affected in temperature, and that change will have dramatic effect on those areas.

Also the temperature plays an enormous role in the increasing rise in sea level around the world. As we all know ice will melt when its environment temperature surrounding it climbs above 0 C (McWhorter). So if the days of the Polar Regions temperature being above 0 C is tripled, all of the ice will melt causing a significant increasing in sea level (McWhorter). Many climatologists predict that an increase in global temperature in the next 50 to 100 years may raise the sea level by 1 meter, enough to flood many costal regions and replace millions of people (McWhorter). The increase in sea level is one of the most crucial effects of global warming on the U.S. This could flood many areas on the eastern and western coast of America, causing devastation around the country.
