IntroductionMultinational 5 is a leading consumer goods company, it operates in three different segments, foodstuff, personal hygiene and household care products. It’s double-headquartered in the UK and the Netherlands, and it presents in many EU member states as well as in many other countries around the world. Their workers are from more than 8 different countries and the skill level of workers various from research and development officers to production line workers. Although in recently years the company had been developing fast and it’s turnover rose by 2.9 per cent to 48.8 billion euro last year, it has to face several challenges including the problems of the sector of consumer goods, like changing demographics, pressure on prices, the speed of innovation, and other problems such as environmental affaires and sustainable development.As a global firm that has business in multiple countries and workers from the globe, MNC 5 needs to build a more efficient way to management the whole company. Meanwhile, the workers also need an organisation to make a stronger voice for them. Thus, the workers form UK and German have agreed that they will launch a demand for the establishment of an EWC, and the creation of EWC will benefit all the workers in the company.This essay is mainly about the process of negotiating the EWC in MNC 5 and the result of the negotiation. Before starting the negotiation, there is a overview of the purposes of creating an EWC and a deeply discussion on both sides of establishing an EWC in MNC 5. The purposes of European Works Councils are mainly about information and consultation. It means that the competence of EWC includes a wide range of issues such as transnational restructuring, remuneration issues, health and safety policies and shaping industrial relations arrangements within the company. Even though there are pros as well as cons of establishing an EWC, the employers and the employees finally agree to do it. The special negotiation body is a group of 15 people from all the 8 EU countries, who were elected by different organisations from their own countries. They sent a 3-member-team, who had consulted an expert from Brazil, to negotiate with the 3-member-team of employers. Due to the needs, challenges, difficulties and misunderstandings that the company is facing, and with the advice of the experts, the SNB came to a conclusion of 13 elements of the EWC agreement, and had 2 formal EWC meeting with the employers to discuss all the elements. On each element, the employees required their claims and the employers gave their responses, then they will draw a conclusion of it. After finish all the 13 elements, they reach a final agreement contract that satisfied both side of them, and at last they signed the paper to finish the negotiation.
