Should the Alcohol Drinking Age E Increased or Decreased?
Should the Alcohol Drinking Age Be Increased or Decreased?
Prologue
There once was a time where alcohol was allowed to be consumed by everyone of all ages.
Due to the eighteenth amendment of nineteen-twenty restricting consumption to eighteen years of age,
bars and clubs seemed to be a very popular place to partake in casual drinking. When alcoholic
behavior began to get out of hand, prohibition began for thirteen years stating that all who purchase,
sell, or consume alcohol will be sentenced and fined. Soon speakeasies overran the country and secret
drinking was the newest and safest way to enjoy alcoholic merriment. In nineteen-thirty three the
twenty first amendment repealed the eighteenth amendment and allowed drinking to be a public treat to
those that are at least twenty-one years of age. Since the nineteen thirties many have wondered
whether the drinking age should be reduced back to eighteen years old.
The legal drinking age should be decreased to eighteen years old because young adults should
be allowed to drink in controlled environments such as restaurants, pubs, and official school events. In
these situations responsible drinking could be taught through role modeling and educational programs.
Mature and sensible drinking behavior would be expected. It is possible to create a new social
environment where young adults are taught to respectfully handle alcohol.
The drinking age is more than likely going to stay twenty-one years of age and older.
One of the reasons that I believe that the drinking age should be decreased is due to the recklessness of
the current society and how they misuse alcohol. Alcohol can be abused no matter how old someone is.
The real way to avoid alcohol related accidents and troubles is to keep alcohol from people known for
their violence, trouble causing, unpredictable behavior, and over indulgence of alcoholic beverages on
more than one occasion. Since the law itself cant decipher between who is mature enough to
manage
