Even though Wikipedia is a quick and easy information source found on the internet, people cannot use the information as a credible and reliable source. The World Wide Web and internet access allows anyone to participate and edit on Wikipedia the information entered at any given time. While Wikipedia has editors to review entered information, the fact still remains that there are no specific groups who enter information and is final. What additional things have I learned about Wikipedia as a credible and valid source of information?

By using the internet in todays society, finding information is as easy as a click of a button. When using an internet search engine, such as, Google, Bing or Altavista to find information, Wikipedia is usually among the results that are returned. Wikipedia is an online based encyclopedia that is edited by people of all ages. Because different information sources are used daily by many people, they need to feel that the source is reliable. To have an online based encyclopedia that allows any and all volunteers that are not expert editors, to edit its website is not a credible and valid source of information.

Wikipedia is not a credible source when writing an essay because individuals of any age can participate in editing information that they feel has been entered incorrectly. A source cannot be considered credible when anyone with internet access can log in and enter information. Valid information is not usually open for several people to add or take away information. From talking to different people, Wikipedia also has a poor reputation of being a credible source. If people do not believe in what they are using, again, how can they use it as a credible and valid source?

Counterparts think that Wikipedia is a credible and valid source. They think that it is a source that falls under the category of credible and valid secondary source. From this perspective, Wikipedia is considered valid because it is updated continuously. Wikipedia also has a filtration process that filters out the incorrect information. Expert editors are on standby to update any information that seems to be falsely stated. Opposers says that any encyclopedia is typically used and cited as a secondary source, whether it is Wikipedia or Britannica.

At one point, when Googled, Wikipedia was on of ten most popular results. As mentioned previously, Wikipedia results are a quick and easy way to find out information. In comparison to the Britannica encyclopedia, Wikipedia is viewed as a credible source by many people. Registered users have access to create or add to information that is recorded. When errors are made, eventually, they will be corrected by a registered user.

Viewers who use Wikipedia are most likely to use the information from this free online encyclopedia because it cuts research time down considerably. Because we live in a world of ever-changing technology, frequent users choose to rely on
