Studying the relationship between light and objects can be looked at in two different ways, in the artistic way or in the scientific way. I plan to approach my topic with balance from both perspectives. I will use the scientific side of it to help me manipulate light while the artistic approach will help me photograph and evaluate my findings. I have been looking at exhibitions, artists, learning from my own photography and studying the relationship of the sun and the moon with the earth. I have been using these forms of research to better understand how shadows are casted and how external factors can alter that.

There are two different types of light, natural light and artificial light. Our primary source of natural light comes from the sun and is a yellow color. Most common artificial lights are white but can vary to yellow. Light is constant and always travels in a straight line. Solar panels enable us to convert light into green energy as a substitute to fuel cutting down carbon emissions. Artificial lights are also environmentally friendly by the low amount of energy needed to power them. Energy efficient lights help you save money, reduce the need for additional power plants, sustainable and reduce greenhouse gases.

My inspiration for the paper structures came from deconstructivst architects and furniture designers. Zaha Hadid being my main inspiration is an Iraqi architect who graduated from the architecture association in London. The reason why Zaha Hadid is my main inspiration is because her basic conceptual drawings are like art to me; they are so abstract and raw just like my initial ideas. Ron Arad being another inspiration to me as his ideas are so creative, his choice of materials and the way he plays around with light. Arad is an architect and furniture designer. Visiting his restless exhibition helped me understand different materials and surfaces because of his wide range of materials.

Further learning the relationship between light and objects I made a series of paper structures. They consisted of various different shapes and sizes, however I did not use materials like glue and sticky tack to hold them together. Using various different techniques such as the light source you choose determines the color temperature and images take from the bottom looking up make objects appear larger. The shadows from the images stretched out, as they got further away from the object. Light gets blocked and cant travel through solid objects and through glass and Perspex brakes up. Scientifically speaking when light waves hit an object one of these four things could happen, the waves can be reflected or scattered off the object, the waves can be absorbed by the object, the waves can be refracted through the object and the waves can pass through the object with no effect.

Creating my paper structures, I used a various different types of techniques such as curling, folding, cutting and bending. These techniques
