I am grateful to all of you attending this year’s meetings of our memberships, the annual board meeting, meetings on the committee. I want you to know that I am not a corporate FBLA member and will be attending all meetings as a board member to continue my efforts to ensure this organization maintains the highest qualifications to participate and to be effective in every aspect of this organization’s program. I also want you to know, for those who are truly FBLA members, that I know how many of you will attend these events. The FBLA is very strong. I have had great success with my group, and we have a strong program in place. You will want to attend our meetings to see how we are developing and working with our members. After these five meetings I want to address all you have to say about this organization. Please, keep on coming! We are going to get into a few topics at the start. First, FBLA members who are members of an organization of organizations such as CAA can choose to apply for membership if they have a personal interest in serving the organization. In the case of the recent Columbia Report, we can expect it included, and the member must fill out the required paperwork and file the application for membership in the organization. Next, I want to highlight the importance of memberships as a last resort because the memberships have proved very successful and will be greatly improved as members of FBLA go forward.

I hope this series of articles can help you make this decision. In the case of my office at CAA, if I made a choice to go to DAA instead of doing that, I would likely be looking to make that decision after hearing from our other members, who agree with what I am about to say. In my view, members should learn from the experience of what these schools are doing. Many of these agencies are not going to spend the money they did to raise the profile of their program at CAA, and if they are I am confident this will not be a long time ahead. I am grateful to the CAA members who said they would come along to help you get elected and will be coming with you in the mail if you are there. After having considered all of my options, I am confident that I can make this decision within a month.

When did you begin to question your parents about this?
My parents were doing a great business when they were able to get their business together from within the local school system. There weren’t many things their parents could go to say, so when I spoke with them, I had this idea about what a good company they are, and how you should do business in the local community. My teachers were not looking favorably on these things, and our board of directors is extremely supportive of our children, and I’m very very grateful to the parents and local community for this. The school system was also supportive of my concerns about my business, and all of our members were supportive of my business with each other in the hopes that we could begin to move on with our lives and keep up our local education.
I was on vacation this past week and my phone rang. It turned out I was being considered for admission to CAA, which was in fact CAA’s first choice for the Board of Governors.
When I first asked where I would be staying in the summer, I was so confused it was over. At this point I was thinking about going to my current job posting. I felt like I would be out and about, not at all. I wanted to give them a break, so they could get through the summer without that worry, which would help us in putting our business together. However, it seemed the next stop on our way across the state was in Hawaii. You were told it was ok to stay in Hawaii. I had decided to stay put. I found myself at the same conclusion as everyone who contacted me in advance about what I was going to be doing during the summer: I would stay back in Hawaii. Having served as a State Officer for Tennessee FBLA for two years and on my Local Chapter Executive committee for three years I have gained a thorough knowledge of this organization. Being a graduate of Institute for Leaders you learn that a resume is built it is not given. Thus being said, all of my success in FBLA did not come easy. It made me look at myself and see how dedicated you are to this organization. Moving here from Memphis to Atlanta was a very swift, emotional, and tragic transition. However I made it through and I lost a lot things but I did not lose my passion and knowledge of this organization.
In conclusion, FBLA is an organization that has basically let me shine, rise up, and be an example for others. My purpose for our executive team is to lead with Passion, Knowledge, and Purpose. This is all I have left to give to this great organization and I plan to execute it through this school year.
