PaulinoPrior to recommending a specific platform to utilize in order to expand upon Casa del Libros competitive advantage and to allow the company to be in a more profitable position to take advantage of its quickly flourishing online sales and presence we must apply the SMART system. This system consists of the application of numerous factors that facilitate the act of making complex, crucial decisions (that can make or break) a company, in our case, Casa del Libro. We must determine whether our choice is specific or targets a specific area for improvement, in this case we are focusing on which platform to utilize, whether the customer-friendly and complex Unix platform system or a Microsoft alternative. Next, in order to make a strategic decision we must determine whether we can “measure” our success or issues with this decision, in order to quantify or at least suggest an indicator of progress, this would be determined by our results following our platform decision. This would result in an assignable task since even though the server platform is intangible, its success depends largely upon the dedicated team of specialists and experts chosen by Mr. Xavi Sola whom is exceptionally qualified and empowered to establish Casa del Libros presence. Even though the decision of applying the platform is quite expensive it is necessary and Casa del Libro is realistically established to make the best of this new excursion into establishing a beneficial presence in the flourishing online market. Finally the SMART system finalizes with being able to specify when results can be achieved, in our case our election of a platform will be giving results very quickly.
The target for Casa del Libro is to expand succesfully into the vast and ever growing online market while offering an impressive balance between quality and quantity in their wide ranging product line. Casa del Libro strives to maintain its position as a “meeting place for readers, sellers,” and basically “cultured people. When taking this information into account, it seems clear that Unix offers the best platform and the most appropriate match for Casa del Libro to assert a powerful online presence with a focus on customer satisfaction.. When taking into account La Casa del Libros current strategic environment and its situation in the competitive market of selling literature in Spain, the Unix platform seems more compatible with their market strategy and a better alternative to take advantage of Casa del Libros competitive advantage due to numerous factors. It is important to note that the Unix platform offers five times the capacity of the Microsoft alternative. A probable system capacity upgrade in the Microsoft would prove to be an additional indefinite cost. In addition, installing the Microsoft platform would prove to be both a system and financial burden due not only to the loss of the currently installed expensive and powerful Unix system but the drastic loss in customer perception and the loss of online sales.
