Immanuel Kant was the most influential figure during the period of the Enlightenment. He had a major impact on the philosophy of the period of the Enlightenment as well as on other philosophers such as Hegel, and made significant contributions to understanding the role of reason and other capacities of the human mind. The following are some of his contributions to the Enlightenment era, which demonstrated his ability to lift a society of corruption and carelessness out of these barbaric times into a society of reason.

Kant had the ability to lift us from barbarianism during a time when corruption and recklessness were common. He was able to contribute morality, religious beliefs, freedom and social responsibilities to society. The human mind gives us our ability to think, reason and interpret experiences. These all give us the ability to separate us from being a barbaric society. One of the greatest things he did to society was that he dared people to know and think. The Latin word for this is “Sapre Aude”, which means “Dare to Think” (“Deep Spirits”, 1). This idea gave people the ability to start thinking for themselves rather than relying on others to think and make decisions for them. This lifted society from barbarianism because people were now starting to think for themselves rather than being corrupted by one external forces or rulers. They were able to think for themselves and create their own freedoms in society. He believed our ability to reason has brought decency to society. He also believed that our minds have given us the ability to create religious beliefs and all freedoms we have today. Our mind has also given us the ability to create ideas. Keep in mind, barbarian societies were only interested in their own needs and they derive to conquer others.
