Introduction
In the world of business, becoming an effective entrepreneur needs several skill to survive such as passion, creative idea, determinate to achieve the business goal and good negotiation skill. Also it is obvious that leadership is the most important skill for entrepreneur because they need to know how to pursue the risk in appropriate manner, develop a good vision and coordinate with several networks or organization. After entrepreneurs achieve their business opportunity, it is very essential to know how each entrepreneur choose their decision based on what decision making. Two differences approaches that help entrepreneur pursue their goal are effectuation and causation approach (Sarasvathy, 2001). In this report, we will provide the information of effective entrepreneur, Mr. Rajbir Sachanakul with his business, Bombay Blues bar, and restaurant and the relation of causation and effectuation theory to his business.
Founder and company background
Bombay blues is one of the most popular bars here in bangkok, renowned for its Indian themed bar and bistro, Initially located at Khao San road, which is popular for its nightlife. The initial idea was to introduce a bar or a chillout lounge for customers with an Indian touch. The owner Mr. Rajbir Sachanakul belongs to an Indian heritage and was completing his high school in India, he had spent most of his teenage there itself. He was more interested in sports and other activities rather than studying. He felt that studies was never his cup of coffee. Moreover, he was always lacking behind where education was concerned. When he came back to Thailand from India he was put into Mahidol University, where he decided to major in marketing. He was still left with an unclear picture as to what education will be helping him for in the near future. He then decided to come up with something that fits him the most entertaining people, therefore he came up with this idea of opening an Indian themed bar and bistro here in the streets of Khaosan, making sure that people are given the right image of what Indian culture is all about. “Not everybody can adapt to Indian spices, since Khaosan is all about people with different cultures we had to make sure we can adapt our food in a way that would be relished by people from any culture” says the owner himself. He decided to establish his first branch in the year 2003, followed by his second branch in the year 2010 at Thonglor. The reason he named his bar Bombay blues is that Bombay represents a state in India. For blues, he wanted to explain the mood that when people come to Bombay blues they can feel relaxed and chilled.
On the other hand, as the trend changed, many people come to Thonglor to hang out with their friends. This made Romie see an opportunity that customer’s preference is changing, so he started to establish Bombay blues at Thonglor. Moreover, he was the first mover opening indian style chill out bar. As a result, he earned a lot of benefit from being as a first mover. He stated that this is because of the unique style of the bar, water pipe smoking (shisha) and indian food. Moreover, Bombay blues was the first mover who introduced water pipe smoking in Thonglor. At that time people have no idea what is water pipe smoking, but if they think where is the chill out bar selling water pipe smoking, Bombay blues would be the first place that many people thinking of. As stated by many customers we asked. On the other hand, as Romie knows that water pipe is the selling point, so he provided many types of water pipe smoking which are normal one and the bubble water pipe smoking. Furthermore, there are many flavors of water pipe smoking as well such as fruits, mint and bubblegum.
Findings
Motivation
According to Romie, lacking behind in education was the first motivating factor that pushed him to do something he loved, secondly his parents played a vital role in the coming up of this startup business. He says that his parents had always supported him throughout he was always lacking behind in education and wanted to help his parents he did not want to be dependent on them. He wanted to be independent and earn for himself by doing something he loved and he always had an image about opening his own bar. During his time in Mahidol he used to party with his friends at Khao san road. From his lifestyle, he saw some opportunities that all of the bars located on that Khao san road were somewhat similar. There were a few indian restaurants, and there is no chillout place where people could sit and eat at the same time. Therefore, he grabbed this opportunity and decided to come up with his business plan for opening
