In the story Metamorphosis, Gregor the main character, goes through a change from being a regular human being and then ultimately turning into a bug. This change was the most visible metamorphosis, but there were also many other changes happening to the other characters in this meaningful story shown to us by Kafka. The author Frank Kafka had many similar qualities as the human turned bug character Gregor. On a deeper level, Kafkas own experiences of feeling nothingness and emptiness were put onto paper in the form of his character Gregor. It could even be said that the two were one in the same.
In this story, Kafka shared more than one metamorphosis with us, he also showed the changes of the other characters in the story. It showed that during his life as a human Gregor was a salesman, and that he was working to pay off a debt for his family. Gregor had bought his family an apartment that they really couldnt afford and they had all the finer things in life because of the help of Gregor. He was good to his family, but there was some sort of resentment on the side of the family. Gregor wanted nothing more then to make his family happy and to have them be proud of them was what he always wanted. His family, his father in particular was strangely resentful for the wealth that they happened upon. In the story it opens with Gregor worrying because he is late to work, merely noticing that he is a bug, he is trying to determine if this metamorphosis could hinder him from going to work that day. These thoughts are of someone who cares very much about his work and his family. Also it is stated in the story that he locks his door before he goes to sleep every night, this could also possibly mean that he is afraid that someone in his family could steal from him during the night. The relationship between Gregor and his sister Grete was that of any relationship between a sister and an older brother, they loved each other and got along and, as Gregor thought they understood each other. Gregors mother and he had almost the sane relationship she loved him and he loved her very much. After Gregors metamorphosis though, things between the Samsas would become incredibly different.
The relationship between the family had become strained, Gregors family
