Over the years researchers adapt a great appreciation for Sociology, through their studies a clear awareness of how the mind operates through the many stages of emotions were developed. Sociology for some is a technical term which clearly means the study of human social behavior, especially the study of the origins, organizations, institutions, and development of human society. (
The Sociologist Robert Ezra Park (1915) conducted one of the first case studies on Sociology, turning his focus towards African Americans. Walking the streets of Chicago to meet people of different backgrounds and gather research material, a series of questions were put together in the form of a questionnaire to ask a number of people different questions based on society, family differences, childhood, divorce, etc. Robert E. Parks and Ernest W. Burgess later wrote the book The City: Suggestions for the investigation of Human Behavior in the Urban Environment “a point of view and a method for investigating the processes by which individuals are inducted into and induced to cooperate in some sort of permanent corporate existence called society”. (p. 58)
From a more recent case study of Sociology and the family (2009) which primarily focuses on the family as a whole such as family size and age, social class, social change, diversity, and the interaction of the family with other social organizations. This case study was conducted through the Australian Institute of Family Studies research journal entitled Family Matters. (p. 60-68)
According to the research found from the case study, there were some indications of disagreement, after later continuing my read on Robert E. Parks, there were a number of people who questioned and even disagreed with his case studies. The questions frequently asked was, why was his concern so great for the urban communities and how are you so sure these studies will work and form a positive effect on peoples lives? Because Parks survey captured the attention of many, I decided to conduct a small survey on Sociology regarding different levels of families, ethnic, and society issues, with a number of 25 people participating. This survey consisted of people of different ages and race backgrounds.
A questionnaire was created to examine the personal relationships dealing with Sociology as a whole. Questions were answered anonymously in a 20 minute period in a Head Start setting. The survey consisted of two sections, in section one of the questionnaire it asked participants to share their levels of stress and frustration on a one to five basis (five being the highest of their opinion and one being the lowest) communication between families and partners, and last their patterns of decision making. In section two of the survey there was a written answer portion (in 25 words), which the question asked how can we change our society in a more positive way?
