The Investigations of the Marquette Market Robbery
On the night of January 6, 2012 it is reported that Marquettes Market was burglarized.
Upon arriving at the scene it was noted that the door located at the south end of the
building had been visibly damaged. Upon entering the store and walking over to the
cash register area at the north end of the store, it was noted that the cash register also had
visible damage and had been broken open. The only monies left in the register itself
was $7.83 in change, and two hand written checks that totaled $15.80. It was reported by
the store owner Speedy Marquette he left $910 in a Midtown State Bank. Mr. Marquette
stated that he closed the store at 12:00am. He exited through the north side of the
building, locking that door from the outside. Mr. Marquette also reported that he had to
return to the store after leaving because he had left his apartment keys on the store
counter. He reports that he enter the store again at 12:35 am. It was at that time he noted
that the door at the south of the building was open. He stated that he checked and also
found that the cash register was also opened, upon inspection he also noted that the
money bag that he left inside the register was also missing. A hammer was found in the
alley .
Upon exiting the south side of the store this investigating officer saw Rusty Fender
another local store owner in the area. Upon questioning Mr. Fender as to whether or not
he was aware of any unusual activities in the area last night. He noted that he usually
closes his shop at 5:30 pm but last night he was working on a customers car. He also
that at approximately 12:00am or later that he was still at his shop when a Ronald Riff
stopped by. Mr. Fender reported that Mr. Riff and he had a conversation about how he
(Mr. Riff) had just won some money, but he needed more. Mr. Fender reported that Mr.
Riff stated he heard someone knocking at the front door. However when Mr. Fender went
